CHANTALLE FALCONER

a song of JOY in the harvest
My name means “to sing,” and I see music as melody—flowing expressively through instruments, voices, and shared moments. It begins as a seed—sown with care, cultivated in hope, and brought to joyful bloom in community.
As a collaborative pianist, vocal coach, and instructor, I bring a sensitive ear and a nurturing presence to every stage of growth—from the first note to the final bow.

Behind the set

This art song set revitalizes the monophonic plainchant compositions of Hildegard von Bingen (1098-1179), a pioneering medieval composer and mystic. By fusing Hildegard's sacred music with contemporary harmonization and techniques, transforming two of her chants into an art song set, this project bridges the historical gap between medieval plainchant and the present. Reimagining her chants as art songs not only honors Hildegard's contributions but also introduces them to modern audiences in a fresh and accessible form.

The selected chants,

"O quam mirabilis est" and

"O cruor sanguinis," capture the essence of Hildegard's modal melodies while enhancing the original compositions through extended piano techniques, improvisation, kinesthetic visuals, and timbral effects.
